VCA History
It all began on July 27th, 1972, when Al Berlin and his partner launched Video Corporation of America from a storefront in Highland Park, New Jersey. Al would spend his mornings delivering newly available professional video equipment to his clients and his afternoons selling. VCA was the first company to focus exclusively on video, leading the way in this emerging technology market by offering the latest in equipment and services.
In 1987, Al's son Dave joined the VCA team, combining his IT background and Fortune 500 experience to move the company into the developing PC-Presentation and Animation markets. VCA became the first company to move images over phone lines and sold the first still-video cameras manufactured by Canon. When Targa released its video capture card, VCA became the first company to sell the product, ushering in a new wave of video production technology. VCA's early recognition of the convergence of the PC and video markets created an opportunity to further distinguish the company from the competition and firmly established them as a pioneer in the industry.
As anticipated, the new digital desktop video market held true and the creative community embraced a new methodology, workflow, and VCA. Through its Computer Imaging Division, the company expanded into new markets, opening a New York City office in 1992. With the arrival of better compression technologies, faster computers, and high quality broadcast video, VCA became the top systems integrator in the U.S. for this new market, servicing one of the largest broadcast and post-production communities of the world.
Since 1992, VCA has steadily grown and expanded, offering full-scale design, engineering, project management, fabrication, installation, and support services for the A/V, broadcast, production, and post-production markets. Headquartered in a large industrial facility in Somerset, New Jersey, sales, design, and systems fabrication all work in tandem to deliver turnkey solutions. Since its modest beginnings in 1972, VCA has sold, installed, and supported the most advanced professional digital audio and video, teleconferencing and presentation systems used by a wide range of customers worldwide.
